Hingham Public Schools Hosts Annual K-12 Art Show

On Thursday, April 25, Hingham Public Schools hosted its annual K-12 Art Show from 6-8 pm in the Hingham High School cafeteria. This event featured over eight hundred pieces of student artwork across all six Hingham schools and interactive pottery wheel-throwing demonstrations by students and teachers from Hingham High. The event also highlighted the hard work and collaborative efforts of nine art teachers and many community volunteers. The goal of showcasing student work across all grade levels is to demonstrate skill progression throughout a student’s academic journey and to inspire young student artists to see what they can achieve if they stick with their creative passions. The evening is also designed to unite Hingham’s creative community in one celebratory space to encourage community connections between students, teachers, and families.

At the K-5 level, students learn how to use the seven elements of art (line, color, shape, texture, form, value, and space) to express artistic ideas about themselves and the world around them. In upper elementary and middle school, students continue refining these skills while being introduced to principles of art and design and studio habits and thinking. High school students refine their knowledge further by studying specific mediums in depth in Ceramics, Wheel Throwing, Drawing and Painting, Photography, Mixed Media, or Graphic Design courses. The projects on display at the art show demonstrated progression through the curriculum at each grade level. Congratulations to the many amazing artists whose work was featured this week at this event!
